Mansion at Woodside Wedding: A Photographer’s Guide
The Mansion at Woodside has an outdoor area by the pool where you can photograph the couple, both families and the entire wedding party without anyone walking anywhere. That is rarer than it sounds, and it is the single largest thing this property does for a wedding day.
Every location change on a wedding day costs more time than anyone budgets for. Gathering people, walking them over, waiting on the two who wandered off, starting again. One area that handles all three groups takes most of that out of the day.
We have photographed at The Mansion at Woodside. What follows separates what the club publishes from what we saw there, and says which is which.
The Mansion at Woodside in Muttontown
The address is 225 Muttontown Eastwoods Road, Muttontown, New York, in Nassau County on the North Shore of Long Island. The ZIP code is 11791, which belongs to Syosset, so a fair number of listings file the venue under Syosset instead. It is the same property either way.
The names are worth untangling, because three versions circulate. The Woodside Club is the club, with golf and a membership. The Mansion at Woodside is what it calls itself for weddings, and the mansion is the building you would get married in. “The Mansion at Woodside Club” turns up on directory sites and the venue does not use it.
One more name to keep straight. The Muttontown Club is a different property, in East Norwich, and we have written about that one separately.
The club’s own site carries driving directions from Manhattan, Westchester, New England, eastern Long Island and New Jersey. Guests coming by train take the Long Island Rail Road’s Huntington line to Syosset Station.
A House, Not a Ballroom
The club describes the building as a Gold Coast mansion, which is accurate and matters more for photographs than it sounds.
You are not renting a ballroom inside a larger building. You get a house, with the rooms and grounds a house implies. Windows, furniture, a staircase, a view out of most rooms. A gallery shot in a house looks different from a gallery shot in one large room, and most of that difference turns up in the morning coverage.
The Getting Ready Spaces
The bridal suite is not a room. At Morgan and James’s wedding it took up a floor, with two large spaces the wedding party moved between all morning and a window the dress hung in well. Ask the club what you would have access to on your date.
Two rooms instead of one solves a problem most couples never think about. Hair and makeup take up space and stay set up for hours, and anyone who is already dressed ends up photographed in front of all of it. With a second room, they do not.
The groom’s space is downstairs and has a pool table and a television. A group can genuinely settle in there for a few hours, and that ease shows up in the pictures.
The Portrait Area by the Pool
There is a space near the pool that works as a purpose built portrait area. Turn in any direction from it and the background holds up, which is not true of most venues’ best spot.
At Morgan and James’s wedding we did the first look, the couple portraits, the family groups and the wedding party there. Nobody was relocated once.
The staff moved people between the house and the pool area by golf cart, which kept the group together and got everyone there at the same time instead of trickling in over ten minutes. Ask whether they do that on your date, because it made a real difference to the schedule.
Cocktail Hour and the Ballroom
Cocktail hour can use outdoor space alongside the rooms inside, and the food is the part we would bring up first. At Morgan and James’s wedding the range of it and the sheer amount read as a real part of the evening and not a holding pattern between the ceremony and dinner. Have the club walk you through what cocktail hour includes on your date, because it is a genuine part of what you are paying for.
Everything then moves into the ballroom, and that move happens inside the same building.
At the time of writing the club has announced a renovation of the grand ballroom, with no dates attached to it. Ask what the room will look like on your date rather than trusting photographs you find online, including any on this page.
What Morgan and James’s Day Showed Us
Most of what we know about working at this property comes from how their day actually ran.
They got ready in the house, so the photographs started before any travel did. The family groups had been planned in detail months earlier, down to who stood in each one, and that list finished ahead of schedule. The time it released went back to them, and they spent part of it photographing with the Rolls Royce that would take Morgan and her father to the church.
Then they left for the ceremony, came back, and we photographed a few extended family groups who had been at the mass, plus a second look with the wedding party. After that we did not ask them for anything else.
Two things we would carry into any wedding here. The ballroom photographs bigger than its footprint, because the windows and the daylight do a lot of the work. And a staff that anticipates where a group needs to be next saves more time than any shortcut a photographer can take with a camera.
What to Ask The Mansion at Woodside
The club is the only current source for anything operational, and all of it changes.
Whether the portraits can happen before the ceremony, given your access time and your ceremony hour. This is the decision that shapes every other one, and it belongs in the first conversation instead of the last month. For Morgan and James the answer was yes for almost everything, with a handful of extended family groups left for afterward.
What your guest count supports in the room you are considering. The club does not publish a capacity figure, and the numbers on directory sites are not a substitute for asking.
What the ballroom will look like on your date, given the renovation they have announced.
What cocktail hour includes, indoors and out.
How long you have the suites, and what time your vendors are allowed to begin.
What a ceremony on the property would involve, if you would rather not travel at all. Plenty of couples here marry at a church nearby and come back, which adds a leg to the day.
Whether more than one event can run at a time, and how the grounds and the pool area get shared if so.
Who The Mansion at Woodside Suits
This suits a couple who want the photographs to be easy instead of negotiated. If the pictures matter to you, and you would rather not spend your day driving between them, the property is laid out for that.
It also suits couples marrying at a church nearby, because everything except the ceremony stays at one address.
Food belongs in the case for this place. Ask to see the menus early if what your guests eat matters to you.
It is a harder fit for a couple who wants a blank modern space to build from nothing, or a beach. This is an estate house on the North Shore, and that is what it is good at.
225 Muttontown Eastwoods Road, Muttontown, New York 11791, in Nassau County on the North Shore of Long Island. The ZIP code belongs to Syosset, so some listings show a Syosset address for the same property. Guests travelling by train take the Long Island Rail Road’s Huntington line to Syosset Station.
Is The Mansion at Woodside the same as the Woodside Club?
Yes. The Woodside Club is the club, with golf and a membership, and The Mansion at Woodside is the name it uses for weddings. The mansion is the building where the wedding happens. It is a different property from The Muttontown Club, which is in East Norwich.
How many guests does The Mansion at Woodside hold?
The club does not publish a capacity figure, and the numbers that appear on directory sites are not a reliable stand in. Ask the club what your guest count supports in the room you are considering, since the answer depends on your floor plan, your ceremony and your dance floor.
Is The Mansion at Woodside good for wedding photos?
Yes, and for one specific reason. The area near the pool works in every direction and is large enough to handle the couple portraits, the family groups and the wedding party without anyone relocating. The house adds variety on top of that, particularly during the getting ready hours, because it has windows and separate rooms instead of one open space.
What are the getting ready spaces like at The Mansion at Woodside?
The bridal suite takes up a floor instead of a single room, with two large spaces a wedding party can move between. The groom’s space is downstairs and has a pool table and a television. Both are comfortable enough for a full morning, which matters because the getting ready hours produce a large share of any wedding gallery.
Can you finish the wedding portraits before the ceremony?
At this property it is realistic, which is unusual. One area handles the couple, the immediate family and the wedding party without relocating, so the whole set can be done in the morning. Whether your own day allows it depends on your access time, your ceremony hour and when your families arrive, so raise it early.
What is cocktail hour like at The Mansion at Woodside?
The club uses outdoor space alongside the rooms inside. From what we saw, the food went further than a cocktail hour usually does, in range and in volume. Ask the club to walk you through what is included for your date, since menus and packages change.

We plan the photography around the shape of a wedding well before the day arrives. At this property that planning is mostly about order, because the order is what decides how much of your own reception you get to attend.
A Real Wedding at The Mansion at Woodside
Morgan and James got ready in the house, finished their couple, family and wedding party portraits before leaving for the church, married at St. Rose of Lima, and came back to a reception that asked almost nothing of them.
The decision to make early here is the order of the day, not the shot list. This property gives you unusual room to finish the portraits before your ceremony, and a timeline built without that in mind leaves it unused.
If you are touring The Mansion at Woodside, or you have already booked it, we can tell you what the getting ready spaces, the pool area and the reception look like from behind a camera. Contact Heritage House to start the conversation.
