Lydia and Robbie’s June Wedding at Briarcliff Manor

Some couples simply fit together.

Lydia and Robbie have known each other for years, long enough that their connection feels effortless rather than performed. They have also spent years making music together. That same ease carried into their wedding day.

Anyone who saw their engagement session at Greenwich Point Park would recognize it immediately. Their Briarcliff Manor summer wedding simply allowed that relationship to unfold on a larger stage, surrounded by the people who mattered most.

Getting Ready in Two Places

Lydia began the morning at Tarrytown House Estate with her family and bridal party. The suite was spacious enough to hold the excitement of the morning without ever feeling crowded. Robbie spent the morning at Briarcliff Manor, allowing each side of the wedding to settle into its own pace before everything came together.

A morning split across two locations lives or dies on the timeline, and All Set Up Event Planning & Design handled it beautifully. Everyone arrived at Briarcliff Manor when they were supposed to, with enough margin that nobody was hurrying. That is harder than it sounds, and it is the difference between a relaxed morning and a day that starts behind.

Once Lydia arrived at Briarcliff Manor, the pace settled immediately. She finished dressing on property, which meant the transition from preparation to first look happened without another car ride in between.

A First Look That Protected the Rest of the Day

Lydia wanted to experience her wedding day, not simply move through it. That intention shaped several of the choices she and Robbie made together. Choosing a first look before the ceremony was one of them, creating a private moment between them before the day’s pace accelerated.

We photographed their portraits immediately afterward while that same calm carried through. Because so much of their portrait list was completed before guests arrived, they were able to spend significantly more time enjoying cocktail hour instead of finishing photographs.

Protecting that time is one of the biggest advantages of a thoughtfully planned first look. Rather than feeling pulled away from their celebration, Lydia and Robbie stayed present with their family and friends for the rest of the day. That was exactly what Lydia had wanted from the start.

A Bridal Party That Kept the Day Moving

Large bridal parties often require careful coordination. With more people comes more movement, more logistics, and more opportunities for delays.

Lydia and Robbie’s bridal party made the process remarkably easy. Everyone stayed engaged, moved efficiently between locations, and embraced both the formal portraits and the more relaxed moments throughout the afternoon.

Because portraits stayed on schedule, Lydia and Robbie gained something far more valuable than extra photographs. They gained more time together before the ceremony and more freedom to experience the rest of their wedding day. Good planning gives large bridal parties room to enjoy the process instead of feeling like they are constantly being moved from place to place.

A Briarcliff Manor Summer Wedding Built Around Family

Lydia and Robbie exchanged vows outdoors overlooking the Hudson River, but what made the ceremony memorable had very little to do with the view.

Lydia’s brother served as their officiant.

A ceremony led by a sibling carries a different kind of authenticity. Rather than speaking from prepared notes about a couple he recently met, he spoke from a lifetime of shared memories. The ceremony felt personal without becoming overly sentimental, formal without ever feeling scripted.

Other family members participated as well, reinforcing the same theme that had quietly shaped the entire day. This was a wedding centered on relationships rather than spectacle.

Photographing the Hudson River Ceremony Site

The outdoor ceremony overlooking the Hudson is one of the best settings on the property, and it comes with a technical challenge we plan for. The aisle runs west, so the bridal party walks toward the sun on the way out. In the late afternoon that light can fall directly on their faces.

This is exactly the kind of thing a second photographer solves. One of us works from the aisle straight on, while the other covers from the side, out of the direct line of the sun. Between the two positions we come away with the full moment, the processional, the expressions, and the river behind it, without losing anyone to the glare.

You do not need to plan around it. We know the site, we know where the light will be, and we position for it before you walk out.

A Reception That Changed Pace Naturally

The reception reflected the same thoughtful planning that defined the rest of the day.

The Devonshire Players provided live music during the ceremony and cocktail hour, creating an atmosphere that encouraged conversation and allowed guests to settle comfortably into the evening. As dinner concluded, Big Apple Entertainment gradually shifted the room’s energy from quiet conversation to a full celebration.

Rather than feeling like two separate events, the transition happened naturally.

The design choices reinforced that same balance. Florals by TK Floral Design, signage and décor from Purely The Details, linens by Nuage Designs, and a cake from Vici Design complemented one another without competing for attention. Every decision felt intentional, allowing the celebration itself to remain the focus.

By the end of the evening, it was clear Lydia and Robbie had created exactly the wedding they hoped for: one they were able to experience fully instead of simply moving through. Elegant without feeling formal. Well planned without feeling rigid. Rooted in family, music, and the quiet confidence that had defined their relationship long before the wedding day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Briarcliff Manor a good choice for an outdoor ceremony?

Briarcliff Manor offers an outdoor ceremony space overlooking the Hudson River. Couples enter through French doors onto a long aisle leading to the ceremony site, creating a formal entrance while keeping every part of the celebration on one property.

How many guests can Briarcliff Manor accommodate?

The venue accommodates up to approximately 180 seated guests indoors and up to 220 guests for a cocktail-style reception, making it well suited to both intimate and larger celebrations.

Can a family member officiate a wedding at Briarcliff Manor?

Yes. Lydia’s brother became ordained and officiated their ceremony, which gave the day a personal quality no outside officiant could have matched. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and New York City registers officiants separately from the rest of the state, so check with the clerk in the county where you are marrying.

What happens if the bride gets ready offsite?

Getting ready offsite requires additional coordination and travel time, but it also allows each side of the wedding to enjoy a relaxed morning before coming together for the first look or ceremony. Careful timeline planning keeps everything running smoothly.

Is a first look worth it at Briarcliff Manor?

For many couples, yes. And Briarcliff Manor gives you real choice about where it happens. You can do it privately upstairs, away from everyone. You can do it at the ceremony site, in front of the building, or over by where cocktail hour will be. The property is picturesque enough that there is no wrong answer.

We choose on the day. Light and weather both play a role, so we assess when we arrive and pick a spot based on those conditions and what the couple wants: some want the privacy of upstairs, others want the grander setting outside.

For Lydia and Robbie, doing the first look before the ceremony meant most of their portraits were finished before guests arrived, and they spent cocktail hour with their family instead of stepping away for photographs.

Where do you photograph a large bridal party at Briarcliff Manor?

At Briarcliff Manor he front stairs do most of the work. They are wide enough to hold a very large bridal party comfortably, and the symmetry of the building behind them keeps a big group looking organized rather than crowded. The wide entrance gives everyone room to arrange themselves without anyone drifting to the edge of the frame.

Preparation still matters. Knowing the order before you begin keeps a large group moving. But at Briarcliff Manor, the architecture solves most of the problem on its own.

Planning Your Briarcliff Manor Wedding

Some prioritize quiet time together before the ceremony. Others want an outdoor celebration overlooking the Hudson River or a reception that transitions naturally from conversation to dancing.
